Skinny Milkshakes – A Guilt Free Indulgence

Ahhhh Milkshakes. Just the thought of them makes my mouth water. Nothing more refreshing than a creamy, cool, indulgent MILKSHAKE, right???

And as much as I love them, I never order them when I’m out, simply because of the calorie factor. Well, that and the fat and sugar factors too! So I knew I had to come up with my own version, one that I could feel less guilty about!

Then my Skinny Shake was born. And while they are definitely lower in calories, fat and sugar; they aren’t without calories. So this is something I don’t treat myself too every night. But at least when I’m having a craving (no I’m not pregnant ;) ), I can feel less guilty while I indulge!

Ready to Make Some Skinny Shakes???

First measure out 2 cups of ice, then pour into your glass. For this I’m using the containers that come along with the Magic Bullet. (*FYI, I wouldn’t recommend buying the magic bullet. Its more “gimmicky” than useful, mostly since the motor isn’t strong enough to last. I bought one in the summer and it quit on me less than 8 months later. And I don’t even use it daily. Definitely going to need to invest in a new blender soon. By the way – I’m open to your suggestions if you have one you love!!! Thanks!)

Now measure out 4 heaping tablespoons of your favorite hot chocolate mix and add 1-2 tablespoons of Peppermint Syrup. I tend to stick with ones that are lower in sugar and are usually darker chocolate mixes.

Time to add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of 1% milk – depending on how thick you like your shakes. And then top with a tablespoon of chocolate chips. You definitely don’t want to use skim milk here, since we aren’t using ice cream you do need to add some fat so that it will taste better. Yes, I said it ladies. Fat tastes good. And not only that, we can’t absorb vitamins and minerals without a healthy amount of fat in our diet. And by “healthy amount”, I don’t mean a lot; I mean a moderate amount. :) So try not going the “fat free” route, you most likely won’t end up satisfying your craving anyway. (Trust me, I’ve taken a trip down the “fat free” road – its not a healthy one on so many levels.) ;)

Aaaaand blend away~!!!! Get it to a nice, thick, creamy consistency; crushing all the ice and incorporating everything really well!

Now top with any toppings you’re craving!!! Whip cream, shaved chocolate, or go the “skinny route” and just drink your milkshake straight up~!!! ;)

Keep in mind, you can easily turn this into a more substantial meal replacement by adding some protein powder instead of hot chocolate mix, adding some yogurt and some fruit~!!! Then it goes from dessert, to a healthy meal replacement~!!! You can also change up the flavors to suit your tastes. For example, use a Vanilla Powder or Mexican Hot Chocolate Powder, or also add Peanut Butter Syrup or Marshmallow Syrup instead of Peppermint. There are SO many ways to change it up and get that Milkshake flavor you are looking for.
